Basic Functions and Responsibilities:
Layout/makeup/slot person estimates the size of the newshole for his/her department; plans placement of copy and photos to fill the newshole; oversees paste up; authorizes the release of completed pages; approves, rejects or amends the work of copy editors on text, headlines and captions; performs other functions and responsibilities of the position. This position will primarily work in Editorial Page dept. May include work on News copy desk, as well as nights and/or weekend work.
