Qualifications: BA or equivalent and previous experience in advertising sales, preferably in a new media environment. Excellent communication, sales and presentation skills. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and SalesLogix or a comparable contact management database system. Must demonstrate ability to operate effectively both independently and in a team environment. Ability to travel to local and suburban clients.


Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Meet or exceed assigned monthly revenue goals. Prepare list of prospects from leads in publications, Web sites, previous accounts, etc. Obtain pertinent information concerning prospects’ past and current advertising for use in sales presentation. Prepare or supervise preparation of sample programs for an online campaign. Contact and visit prospects and agencies to demonstrate advantages of advertising with Boston.com and exhibit prepared samples. Confer with advertisers to determine timing of advertising. Work with the Ad Operations to schedule advertising. Present and negotiate rates with client. Prepare and sign client contracts. Prepare or supervise preparation of ad layout for campaign and present to client for approval. Notify current and potential advertisers of opportunities of interest, such as related topical article, issue of a publication, etc. Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customers into Saleslogix. Develop and maintain relationships with advertising agencies and prospects. Investigate and resolve customer problems with insertions. Communicate with Sales Manager through weekly and monthly reports on sales efforts. Work with appropriate Boston Globe representatives and managers on key accounts.
