Re: Journalism Ethics and Corporate Business Ethics Policies
Dear Dan:
This will confirm that the Union will agree to the terms of the corporate Business Ethics Policy as was sent to the Guild on or about May, 2005 and will similarly agree to the terms of the Globe Journalism Ethics Policy (the “Ethics Policies”)as was sent to the Guild on or about March, 2005 , with the exception of those limited terms in both policies which the Guild has designated for further discussion. Attachment A to this side letter includes a list of all such provisions, which will be referred to a joint committee composed of equal representation from the Globe and the Union for further discussion.
If after the end of a year (on or about October 1, 2007) the committee has not reached agreement on the remaining provisions, the Globe, upon thirty (30) days notice to the Union, may reopen the contract only for the limited purpose of bargaining over the unresolved provisions of the Ethics Policies. During the period of negotiations, the “no strike/no lockout” provisions of Article X, Section 9 of the collective bargaining agreement shall be suspended only insofar as necessary to allow either party to exercise its respective right to strike or lockout in support of its negotiation position regarding the unresolved ethics policies terms and not with respect to any other matters.
Very truly yours,
Gregory L. Thornton
