RE: State of the Boston Globe

The Boston Unity Council of Newspaper Unions is writing in response to our meeting of June 3rd regarding the Globe’s downward trends in revenue and circulation.

The Globe has stated its desire toward discussion of contractual issues based on current economic climate at the Globe.

While each union will handle their respective discussion, we reiterate the fact that any such discussions must be mutually collaborative with the Globe making changes that reflect the magnitude of the many flexibilities provided by all Globe unions to date to ensure the Globe remains competitive today and moving forward.

The unions will provide you with contact names of their auditors who will review all Globe financial data and also will contact you to set dates to do so.

We look forward to open and honest collaboration and expect management to absorb an equal ratio of sacrifices.

The unions within the Boston Globe stand united in all upcoming discussions.
