Letter to Unions: Harvard Trade Dinner

January 19, 2007

Dear _____________,

I am writing to inform you that The Boston Newspaper Guild will not be attending this year’s Harvard Trade Union Program dinner on Wednesday January 24, 2007.

This action is in response to The New York Times decision to outsource to India the work of our union members at The Boston Globe. The Boston Newspaper Guild and our members vehemently believe our work at The Globe belongs to us and within the United States.

By no means is our boycott of the HTUP 2007 dinner a reflection on our brothers and sisters of the IBEW 103 or the students, faculty, staff or alumni of the HTUP.

In solidarity we support and encourage the mission and work taking place at HTUP.

The NY Times should be ashamed of outsourcing The Boston Newspaper Guild’s work out of the U.S. and our members out of jobs. The hypocrisy of the NY Times knows no boundaries.

In Unity and Solidarity,

Daniel B. Totten, President
Boston Newspaper Guild
